Measuring 606km2, the city of Chicago’s motto “urbs in horto” (city in a garden) adopted in the 1830s is for the impressive and historic park system. The name Chicago was first recorded in 1688, where it appears as Chigagou, an Algonquian word meaning “onion field”.
