YUGAO FROM THE TALE OF GENJI (1886)

Yugao is a tragic figure from The Tale of Genji, often called the world’s first novel, written in the 11th century by female novelist Murasaki Shikibu. In the tale, Yugao dies suddenly after encountering the jealous spirit of one of Genji’s lovers.
