The vampire-horror film, loosely based on the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker. The film proved to be a huge box office sensation, and within 48 hours of its opening in New York, 50,000 tickets had been sold, and with a building momentum that resulted in a $700,000 profit which was the largest of Universal's 1931 releases.
