By William Michael Harnett (1848–1892), an Irish-American painter. Born in Cork, he and his family emigrated to America soon after his birth. He started his early career engraving designs on table silverware whilst studying art classes in the evenings. As an artist he is known for his trompe-l’oeil still life paintings.
