In 1947, the first UFO report was made. A pilot named Kenneth Arnold saw nine flying objects and described their movement as "like a saucer if you skip it across the water." The reporter misunderstood this as the objects themselves resembling "flying saucers" although Arnold said they resembled boomerangs.
