Started in Philadelphia pride, the additional stripes of brown and black was added to the original rainbow pride flag designed by Gilbert Baker in 1978. Long term friend of Baker explained “the stripes were not chosen for skin colour - they were chosen to reflect the spectrum of colour in nature."
