Prominent Victorian female English painter, Louise Jopling (1843-1933), was born in Manchester, and later studied in Paris. In 1901, she became the first woman admitted to the Royal Society of British Artists. She founded her own school of painting for women, actively supporting feminist causes and was a solid supporter of the National Union of Women’s Suffrage.
