JAPONAISERIE OIRAN BY VAN GOGH

Van Gogh's "Portrait of a Courtesan" is not simply a copy of the original by Eisen, but a composite picture of different Japanese woodblock prints to create the backdrop. It also served as an experimentation for Van Gogh's own original style and use of colours.
