Hasui Kawase was one of most prominent print designers of the shin-hanga (new prints) movement. Unlike his contemporaries he preferred to depict lesser-known villages from his travels rather than grand touristic locations. He often obscured his scenes behind weather, capturing ethereal moments in time that could be anywhere in the world.
