Painted by Carl Spitzweg c.1850, the library is depicted decorated in rococo style with a man dressed typically of the 19th C period standing at the top of a ladder. His love for books is evident as he intently reads a book nearsightedly, whilst holding a second book in his other hand, a third book under his arm and a fourth between his knees.
