Van Gogh moved to Provence in the South of France for the warm climate but arrived in the snowy winter season. He painted the sprig of almond blossom indoors due to the cold weather. Being one of the first flowers of the year that blossom, the almond tree flower symbolises watchfulness as well as sweetness, charm and delicacy.
