In 1650 Liverpool still consisted of its seven original streets, including Dale Street, Castle Street, Chapel Street and Water Street. Two years earlier in 1648, a 30 ton American vessel, the first cargo, reached the city carrying tobacco. This trade significantly aided the rapid growth of the city.
