From The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine (1611) by English cartographer John Speed (1552-1629). Speed labels North Burcombe 'quaere' (query) as he was unsure of its name. Subsequent mapmakers using his work continued to mislabel the village as 'quaere' for over 100 years.
