Koinobori, meaning ‘carp streamer’, are carp-shaped windsocks traditionally flown in Japan above the roofs of houses, to celebrate Children’s Day. The artist Hiroshige is considered as one of the greatest, known to have influenced western impressionists such as Van Gogh and Monet.
