ABOUT THE ARTIST
Yoshida Hiroshi was one of the leading figures in the shin-hanga, or new print, movement. Unlike the traditional method of separating the print designer, carver, and printer, in 1925 he began employing artisan carvers and printers, supervising the entire process closely and often carving the woodblock himself. The Jizuri (self-printed) seal is found in the margin of prints which were made under his close supervision. Yoshida is best known for his landscapes, travelling widely to seek inspiration as most of his prints depict scenes from his journeys.
