ABOUT THE ARTIST

Little is known of the artist Eijiro Kobayashi (1870-1946), who produced only three woodblock print designs. All of his known prints appear in Hasegawa’s ‘Night Scenes,’ (early 1900s), a notable series in shin hanga style. Though so few designs are attributed to him, some believe ‘Eijiro Kobayashi’ was his go (art name) and that it’s possible he produced more artwork under another name, which was not uncommon in smaller publishing circles in the early 20th century.
